Why this quadrant
A well-maintained substation transformer is a simple, bounded engineered payoff with thin tails, but seven years of deferred maintenance plus a disabled suppression system plus a backup on the same circuit collapsed the redundancy that keeps engineered risk thin-tailed, converting one component failure into a fat-tailed cascade across aviation, rail, and residential power.
